Luxury Holiday Cottage Cornwall: Spacious and Light
Downstairs, The Cottage boasts a bright, semi-open plan, spacious interior. Upstairs light floods into every room which is quite unique for a Cornish cottage. The Cottage is decorated in a sophisticated country chic come rustic farmhouse style. With a mixture of flagstones, white-washed floors, rustic oak stairs, unusual light fittings, interesting furniture finds, sumptuous soft furnishings and touches of rural glam, The Cottage provides an exceptionally high standard of accommodation.
The Sitting Room
Everything at The Cottage has been designed with relaxation and rejuvenation in mind. The delightfully light, spacious and characterful sitting room with a large wood burning stove and comfortable sofas combine to provide cosy, comfortable relaxation. The largest fireplace features an inglenook with an original cloam (bread) oven, built into the side of the chimney-breast. Mood led lighting provides a relaxing element and a 6kw Woodwarm wood burner provides for a cosy night in with a drink of your choice and a good book (or kindle!) or catching up with TV.
At the other end of the room is another fireplace featuring an original old beam. Within the fireplace Jacqueline has used an old granite feed trough, her own photography, candles and led lighting to create a ‘great’ feature.
Relax in-front of the fireplace with its twinkling mood candles to play games, digest the day’s adventures, catch up with TV on the LG Smart 47″ Freeview TV, watch a DVD, listen to your own fab music using blue tooth connectivity on your mobile, android or ipad with the 60W Sony sound bar or connect to the Cottage wi-fi system to view the internet.
The Kitchen and Dining Room
The stylish kitchen has been styled in a successful combination of contemporary and country chic farmhouse features by seamlessly knitting a flagstone slate floor, a bespoke oak and steel staircase, a hand built and hand painted kitchen with designer Alessi cutlery and locally sourced fabulous lighting fixtures. For the chef there is everything ranging from a walk-in pantry, electric range, microwave, American style fridge and freezer, traditional style larder cupboard, dishwasher, and TV to an ice-cream maker. The table and chairs and the dresser have all been hand painted by Jacqueline. Under the stairs ‘Ted’ sits in his antique high chair. Please note this chair is for ornamentation only. Another high chair is available for infants.
Then dine in the bright spacious dining area with French doors overlooking your own private garden.
Take a morning coffee or early evening G&T in the snug to catch up with your work (if you have to!), or just take a few minutes to yourself. The wall lights are locally sourced old marine bulkhead lights. The ceiling lights are my own design and hang from chunky black chains. The snug table is a reclaimed sewing table with an oak wood top.
Returning Home after a Day’s Adventures
At the end of the day there is a large internal porch to kick off your walking boots and hang your coats. To the left of the utility stable door is a bespoke laundry sink specifically to aid washing your walking boots etc… To keep clothes fresh after an adventurous day on the beach, or walking the cliffs or moors, an A+++ rated washing machine and B-rated condenser tumble dryer are in the utility room, just off the kitchen. A clothes airer, and coat hanging facilities in the warm ‘tank room’ should soon dry your outer clothes. In case you need to mop up the floor or iron out a few creases, a mop and bucket can be found in the ‘tank room’ and an iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner are in the tall cupboard.
Then you will be ready for a relaxing shower in any one of three walk-in showers in the cottage. But for a fabulous wetroom experience, with overhead rain shower and height adjustable shower head, you will find the wetroom located just off the snug. A feature of this room is the huge original, recycled, bulk head light from a dismantled cruise ship that lights your way to the shower. Fluffy towels and a hair dryer in each bedroom ensure a comfortable finale to your invigorating shower. For those wanting a more relaxing bathe then our beautiful floor lit, double ended Victorian bath will be very enticing. It goes without saying that all toilets in the cottage are dual flush to save water and help the environment. It is quite exceptional to find a dedicated wet room in a luxury holiday cottage cornwall.
All bedrooms are furnished in a sophisticated shabby-chic country style and display a mix of contemporary and characterful linens. Large windows allow the sunshine to flood in. White-washed wooden floors, vaulted ceilings, exposed white washed beams and vintage/contemporary inspired furnishings combine to create inviting spaces perfect for luxurious relaxation. Many of the bedroom cushions are hand made.
All bedrooms are light, spacious and well equipped with bespoke clothes hanging rails, clothes dressers, fluffy towels and a hair dryer.
Suitcases can easily be stored under each of the beds.
The Master Bedroom Suite: A unique feature
The stunning master bedroom suite has the luxury of a king size bed, adorned with luxurious vintage styled French linen, a rustic canopy over with white french drapes flowing each side of the headboard and a french inspired upholstered armchair to match the Roman blind. The integral dressing/nursery room features bespoke hanging rails and an antique ‘old pine’ chest of drawers. A Velux window provides a flood lit room with a black out blind when infants are sleeping.
The large en-suite bathroom with its large sash and Velux windows provide a beautiful sun lit room. The en-suite is truly luxurious with mood enhancing led floor lights illuminating a double-ended Victorian style bath. A large (1400×900) walk in-shower and his&hers basins complete this bathroom making it absolutely perfect for the romantic couple or parents dreaming of a sumptuous soak to relax away the day. Candle sconces adorn the walls flanking ‘Rambo’ the mirror, nicknamed by Jacqueline and her brother due to the weight, size and paint finish!
Please note: The dressing room can also accommodate a cot/bed if required.
The serene second bedroom is tastefully decorated, taking inspiration from one of Jacqueline’s photoart canvas prints. With traditional country style including a bespoke bed canopy with floating voile drapes, a sumptuous double metal bed (4’ 6” /140cm), an antique ‘secretaire’ chest with drawers of local provenance, a rustic clothes rail and an antique chair in the corner, this room is both romantic and tranquil.
The third bedroom is my personal favourite. It is decorated with ‘a nod’ to the coast. A stunning lighting fixture provides dappled light around the room and two large sash windows makes this room beautifully bright and light; not what you would expect in a 300 year old cottage. Two comfortable 3ft single beds complete the sleeping accommodation. Another bespoke hanging rail, a hand painted antique bent wood chair and painted chest provide additional interest and clothes storage.
Guest shower room
The second and third bedrooms have a choice of sharing the family bathroom with a walk-in shower or electing for one room to use the shower room and one to use the fantastic wetroom with its overhead rain shower downstair. You really are spoilt for choice! The shower room provides the perfect opportunity for a rejuvenating start to the day with a walk-in shower and pedestal sink. Floor lit led lighting provides the romance here but is also a practical feature to aid children find the toilet during the night, if required. Again a large sash window floods the room with light.
This beautiful luxury holiday cottage Cornwall combines character with comfort and is perfect for both couples and families. Whether reclining in the sunshine, enjoying an al fresco sundowner, or a fun BBQ, the walled cottage garden provides a tranquil setting in which to unwind. On one wall in the ‘walled garden’ is a large garden clock flanked by candle sconces providing mood enhancing flickering candle light whilst you enjoy a sundowner on the cushioned bench. During the days, enjoy views from this garden, across meadows and beautiful, verdant countryside to Morwenstow (North of Bude). There are a further 2 lawned areas for your enjoyment. To the front of The cottage is an area of slate chipping which provides a sun-trap area where you sit on the old granite gatepost to take in the sunshine and sip your wine or a refreshing cup of tea.
On your return from a fun filled adventure day or a relaxing stroll over the moors, cliff tops or country lanes there is ample off-road parking for 2-3 vehicles.
