This Luxury Cottage in Cornwall Provides a Modern Space and Comfort in an Authentic Cornish Cottage
My luxury cottage in Cornwall can sleep 2 adults plus an infant/babe in arms (cots and Ready Bed both provided FREE of charge). Up to three dogs are very welcome at my luxury cottage in Cornwall.
To help you envisage how you, your infant and dogs would enjoy the space the cottage has to offer, I have drawn floor plans shown below. The plans were drawn to scale.

Obtaining permission to knock down the dilapidated lean-to on the West end gable, which used to house part of the kitchen, a small dining room and a tiny bathroom, was a real blessing. There was simply no room for the bathroom anywhere else in the cottage which is why the lean-to was originally built. There was no insulation so as you can imagine, it was a particularly cold space.
Being able to replace the lean-to with a larger, double-story extension gave me scope to create a wonderfully spacious kitchen-diner with French doors leading out on to the enclosed rear garden, a laundry room and a pantry, which is currently houses all of our cleaning paraphernalia. This new extension also allowed me to remove the staircase, which originally divided two small sitting rooms and replace it with a larger bespoke, oak and steel, staircase accessible from the kitchen/diner.
The refurbishment of what remained of the cottage on the ground floor, involved creating a much larger sitting room, changing the old ‘Cold Room’ into a dedicated Wet Room and where part of the kitchen once extended up to the Cold Room door, this space is now a cute and cosy Snug/Office.

Upstairs is a similar story to downstairs, in that being able to build the extension on the West gable end, I was able to indulge in creating a master bedroom suite; very rarely found in any Cornish cottage. However, not wanting to spoil the authenticity of this beautiful cottage, the planners requested the roof line on the new extension be sent-down from the original, thus creating a cosier feel, which I am absolutely delighted with as it retains the integrity of the original cottage.
Within the master bedroom suite are three independent adjoined rooms: the master bedroom with king size bed and canopy over; a large ensuite bathroom with a bath, large walk-in shower and double basins plus a toilet, radiator and towel rail; a walk-in dressing room which also provides space for a travel cot (provided free of charge on request), with a black-out blind.
The most exciting element of the first floor refurbishment was being able to pull down the original low ceilings and replacing them with vaulted ceilings under a brand new roof. This gave me the opportunity to install lots of insulation, making upstairs a warm and welcoming space to sleep.
All floorboards upstairs were replaced with new, painted boards that now provide easy cleaning and add to the bright open feel. All upstairs rooms each have at least one window. The exception is the dressing which has a roof Velux.
If you have read this far (well done!) I trust you will feel that you have found the luxury cottage in Cornwall that you have been seeking.
